Gentle Sinners release new single “Landfill”

“Landfill” is the third preview of Gentle Sinners‘ debut album, following March’s “Face To Fire (After Nyman)” and last year’s “Killing This Time”, and is accompanied by a Kieran Howe-directed video.

Graham says of the new release, “My mental health was at the worst it’s ever been. It was starting to physically manifest and for, the first time in my life, I needed medication to help me. I had resisted it for years as I thought I would be failing my family, but that was so wrong of me. There should be no stigma in seeking medical help for your mental health. I wanted to address those stigmas. I wanted to address the anxieties about asking for help. I grew up in a society where talking openly about mental health was something that just didn’t happen. People who were brave enough to speak about their problems were instantly judged. That needs to change. The brain is an organ just like any other part of your body and will react to stress like any other organ or muscle. Realising it wasn’t my fault and that there is no shame was a massive thing for me. This song is the manifestation of those feelings.”

On how they formed Gentle Sinners, Graham explained in March, “A couple of days before I left Aidan and I met up and walked around Queens Park. I mentioned to him I wanted to do something outside of the band but had no idea on how to go about it. I wasn’t expecting him to suggest working together, I was just looking for some advice as I’ve loved everything he’s done in his solo career. Hearing what he’d done inside and outside of Arab Strap, I could see that they both complimented each other and helped him exercise different ways of writing. I wanted that. I wanted to try new things, I wanted to see what else was inside me. He suggested we work together and that he had some music he could send me. I said yes straight away.”

He added of their debut album These Actions Cannot Be Undone, “The subject matter was hard but writing it was easy. Working with Aidan has been a dream. Most of these songs were written and recorded within days. It all just came very naturally and I never questioned the words or the feelings that came out of me.”

“Landfill” is out now. Gentle Sinners’ debut album These Actions Cannot Be Undone will arrive digitally on Friday (13 May) via Rock Action. Vinyl copies will follow in September, and are available to pre-order now.
