Vocalist Lyle Divinsky helped The String Cheese Incident launch their second set on Wednesday at the inaugural Daze Between New Orleans festival. The former The Motet frontman led SCI through “Get To You” at NOLA’s Faubourg Brewery.

The String Cheese Incident headlined both days of the new event and were joined by Billy Strings and members of Snarky Puppy on Tuesday. Cheese closed out Daze Between New Orleans following sets by The Rumble featuring Chief Joseph Boudreaux, Rebirth Brass Band, Honey Island Swamp Band, Lettuce and Iceman Special.

SCI went with “Missin’ Me” to open last night marking the song’s first appearance in that slot since 2017. “Missin’ Me” bled into “Black Clouds” and the string of oldies concluded with Bill Nershi‘s “Born On The Wrong Planet” and rarity “The Pygmy Pony.” Cheese then delivered their second “Rain” since 2017 and served up the title track from their recently released Into The Blue EP before closing the set with “Restless Wind.”

Last night’s “Get To You” second set opener was SCI’s first take on the song since Suwannee Hulaween 2019. Lyle Divinsky contributed to the studio version of “Get To You” released as a single in 2018. Cheese then went sans guests to work Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up” within the traditional “I Know You Rider.” From there, the band put the focus on recent material with Nershi’s “World Gone Crazy,” Keith Moseley and Rayland Baxter’s “Gone Crooked” and the collaborative “Hi Ho No Show.”

The frame concluded with SCI’s beloved Talking Heads cover “This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)” and live staple “Just One Story.” Cheese took “Barstool” off the shelf after nearly three years to start an encore that also included the bluegrass classic “How Mountain Girls Can Love.”
